Last year around this time, I flew to Orlando Florida for the National Association of College Stores major trade show buying event (CAMEX). Being away from Matt for a week was awful, even though we Skyped every night. Well, this year things are looking up!

Matt is accompanying me to Houston, so it’s a working vacation instead of just working-working, and we’re both looking forward to it. While I’m attending training sessions, lectures, and the trade-show, Matt plans to explore Houston for us both. We’re treating this as a preview of the city, and intend to go armed with resume’s. As I’ve mentioned before, we want to move somewhere a little warmer, so why not Houston?

I plan to take lots of pictures, and do a very thorough reporting job on this great city! We’ll be there from February 24th through March 1st. If you’ve been to the Houston area, please comment on any “must see” attractions or restaurants.

I’ve been up since 3:30 am, anxiously packing and repacking in preparation for our anniversary vacation to Newport.

Chico’s Squeaky Squirrel, CHECK
Cho’s Jingle Mouse (the white one), CHECK
Chico’s Peppermint flavored Tums (he doesn’t like the berry flavor), CHECK
Cho’s Hidey Hole (cardboard box with a hole cut in it), CHECK

Not to mention packing myself and Matt!

We’ll leave this afternoon for McMinnville, where our brother Chris will take care of Cheeky and The Cheese. Tonight we’ll stay in McMinnville, then drive over to Newport tomorrow morning. Saturday all the way through to next Friday at the Elizabeth Street Inn! I’m hoping that it will be relaxing and fun. No airports, so that’s a plus.

The camera is packed, and I plan to fully document every adventure :)

As a wedding present, my dad generously gave us a AAA gift certificate. So, we booked six nights at the Elizabeth Street Inn at Newport for our one-year anniversary vacation. From July 31st until August 6th, we’ll be relaxing in the romantic “King Jacuzzi” suite…

It’s been a while since we’ve been to Newport, and we decided that a vacation to Hawaii—or anywhere else involving airports—would be too stressful. And, since we’ll be on the coast, we’ll spend some quality time with the Nichols grandparents (much overdue!).

I’ll be on (a much looked forward to) vacation beginning next Wednesday, and won’t be back to work until June first! Yard work, painting, reading, hiking, and watching Battlestar Galactica seem like reasonable vacation activities, and I intend to engage in each of them with abandon.
Matt and I will be travelling to McMinville on the 21st of May to celebrate both our birthdays with Ellen and Ron. Kashiko gets to come, but Cho’s going to have to hold down the fort in The Dalles. The people in the party are going on a wine tour via horseback on Friday, and are very much looking forward to it.
We’ll post pictures of the adventure when we get back!
